The 2010 AIA Newark Suburban Design Awards will be held Friday, September 24 at the Montclair Art Museum in Montclair, NJ from 6-9 pm. The Museum is located at 3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair 07042. 2. Free parking is provided at the museum. 3. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served throughout the evening. 4. The event is free to all AIA NS members and Allied Members. 5. Members entering the Design Awards competition may bring one guest free of charge per project submitted. 6. Tickets for non-NS section members may be purchased for $40 per person. 7. Tickets for Architectural Interns when attending with an AIA member may be purchased for $20.00. 8. Admission is free to all Architecture Student Union members. Students must be age 21 or older. 9. 1.5 CEUs will be earned for attendance for AIA members. 10. Louise Braverman, FAIA is a New York City based architect whose projects include The Poets House, a 50,000 volume poetry library that recently opened in Battery Park in Manhattan as a LEED Gold building. Among Ms Braverman's notable work is the transformation of Chelsea Court, a single-room occupancy dwelling being used as a crack den, into an affordable housing complex that has received numerous design awards, including the AIA New York State and AIA National Housing Awards. Ms Braverman has also served as a juror for the 2008 Residential Architect Magazine Design Awards. The work of her firm, Louise Braverman Architect, can be viewed at www.louisebravermanarchitect.com. Marc Tsurumaki, AIA is a principal of Lewis Tsurumaki Lewis Architects in New York City. LTL Architects has received prestigious firm awards including the 2007 National Design Award from the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. The firm was selected by Architectural Record in 2000 as one of ten firms representing the "Vanguard in Contemporary Architecture." Recently the firm participated in Rising Currents, a Museum of Modern Art sponsored design challenge to create new infrastructure in New York Harbor that responds to the threat of rising sea levels. LTL's work focused on Liberty State Park and Ellis and Liberty Islands and is currently on exhibit at MoMA until October 11, 2010. Mr.Tsurumaki was the Fall 2006 Louis I. Bruce Beinfield, FAIA is a Norwalk, Connecticut based architect noted for his residential, commercial, and restaurant projects. In 1997 Mr. Beinfield received an AIA Special Achievement Award for Architectural Excellence for his role in orchestrating the revitalization of the SoNo district in Norwalk. Mr. Beinfield's work helped transform an urban slum into a vital arts-oriented community. Mr. Beinfield's project for a house in Westport, CT was selected as the 1988 House Beautiful Magazine's Best Small House Award. Mr. Beinfield also lectures extensively and has served as a visiting critic at Yale University and the University of Colorado. In addition to serving as jurors, each of our three distinguished guests will give a talk about their work and the practice of architecture.
