The 2010 Past Presidents Banquet was held at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange, NJ.  Over 100 attendees including architects, past presidents, allied members, and guests honored the services of Chris Stone, AIA for his accomplishments as the 2009 President, Judith Donnelly, AIA as the incoming 2010 President, and all the past presidents who have served the Section.  It was a clear winter evening that availed a wonderful view of the Manhattan skyline that added to the find food, great music and dancing that lasted well after midnight.

This year’s gala was highlighted with the presentation of the Herman C. Litwack, FAIA Service Award, the highest honor to be bestowed upon a Newark & Suburban member, to Hugh Boyd, FAIA who was accompanied by his wife and his daughter who made a surprise visit from college.  The presentation of the award was made by past recipient David DelVecchio, AIA and James Ramentol, AIA.  Hugh’s projects have received many awards on the international, national and local levels.  In addition to this prestigious award, a new award was created in honor of the late Carleton B. Riker, Associate Emeritus AIA.  This award is the highest award to be bestowed upon an Associate AIA member of Newark & Suburban and was presented to Carleton’s family as Carleton being the first recipient of the award.  The presentation was made by Justin A. Mihalik, AIA, Past President, who was accompanied by Jerry Eben, AIA and Robert Cozzarelli, AIA.  Carleton served AIA Newark & Suburban Architects actively for 62 years until his passing.

The 2010 slate of officers was inducted by David DelVecchio, AIA, Regional Director and a speech was given by Judith Donnelly, AIA, President of Newark & Suburban Architects for 2010.  Judy is only the third woman president of AIA Newark & Surburban, and ironically prior to chasing her passion for architecture, Judy had the opportunity to work on the restoration of the Highlawn Pavilion as a steel contractor.  Judy brings her great spark of energy to the presidency and we all look forward to a wonderful year.
